Celebrating work that often goes unrecognised

The University of Sheffield’s Student Union is doing something very important.  They’re giving out awards for things like personal tutoring (advising), running the staff-student committee, giving good feedback, and so on.  These are incredibly important sorts of work in academia.  They’re also extremely time-consuming, often emotionally trying, and totally overlooked when it comes to workload allocation and promotion.  And very often– though not always– it’s women academics who are putting in all this unrecognised work.  Recognising it is good in its own right, but it’s also good for women in academia.
